Due to the amount of email and IM requests I receive, some inspired by copious amounts of alcohol, I've decided to revive this site. Since I don't have the time to dedicate to the management of this site, I will be announcing a General Manager who will organize events, keep an eye on day to day issues and provide suggestions for keeping the forum moving forward. I've got a candidate in mind, but if you are interested in this paid position, let me know. You won't be able to retire from managing this league, but you might be able to throw a few more singles at your next stripper or buy a bottle of your favorite hooch.
I have also received (believe it or not) a fair amount of requests for the rFactor Online Dedicated Server Manager tool I announced probably 4-5 months ago. I am in talks with resident coding guru, Ximian, on formalizing a deal where he will code this up. While the tool will not be free to the community, it will be relatively cheap. Start saving those pennies now. I'm also evaluating forum software as I'm looking to purchase (most likely) either the latest version of Invision Power Board (we're running a dated beta version here) or VBulletin. Since I blame the hacking of this site with the ultimate demise of our league, security will be of utmost importance. I emailed Invision today to see what they've done to prevent hacks. Both are < $200 for a license. This was one of the top five simracing sites (by unique hits) and I'd like to return this site to its former glory. Looks pretty good - I'll give it an install tomorrow.
Right now I'm looking at SMF (Simplemachines Forum) for this part of the new site with Joomla (http://demo.joomla.org/demo10/) as the front page and CMS with JSMF (http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,132/Itemid,35/) as the "bridge" that connects the two, so there's only 1 login for the entire shebang.
